E. Wesley Spencer

Ernest Wesley Spencer, 74, of 759 Mills Road, Columbia, died September 28, 2019, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Born in Tyrrell County, December 1, 1944, he was the son of the late Thomas and Elsie Smith Spencer. He was married to the former Margaret “Maggie” Jaeger, who survives.
A gun enthusiast, Wesley was the proprietor of his own gun shop and enjoyed fishing and crabbing. He was a Mason and a member of Providence Lodge # 678 AF & AM. He was a longtime member of Malachi Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and was a member of the church choir and taught Sunday school. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force as well as Naval ROTC, Coast Guard Reserves and National Guard.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. October 5, 2019 at Malachi Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Rev. David Furlough, pastor will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Denise S. Landino and husband Mark of Columbia; brother Eric Spencer of Roanoke, Va.; sister Patricia S. Roper of Virginia Beach, Va. and granddaughter Martina Landino.
