Dare to Scare 5K and Sweet Treat Fun Run planned for Sat. before Halloween

The third annual Dare to Scare 5K and Sweet Treat Fun Run will be held Saturday, Oct. 26.
The 5K begins at 9 a.m. and the Fun Run at 10 a.m. The race benefits the Annual Dare County Center Toy Drive held every December, serving over 400 local youth residents.
The 5K leads runners and walkers from Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese along the Marshall and Gussie Collins Walkway to the Dare County Center in Manteo. The course travels through meandering scenic woodlands and along the marsh on Roanoke Island. Participants are encouraged to dress in Halloween best for a chance to win a prize. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Pre-race activities will be held at the start line for runners and walkers located at the Coastal Studies Institute.
The Fun Run will take place at the Dare County Center.
All 5K participants are encouraged to park at the Dare County Center. Transportation to the start line will be provided until 8:15 a.m. with no return trips post-race.
Registration currently open from now through race day. Until Oct. 24, registration fee is $35. At packet pick-up, Friday, Oct. 25 from 4 to 6 at Dare Center, and on race day, registration is $40.

The race is being held in collaboration with the Dare County Center, Coastal Studies Institute, OBX Go Far and the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau.
