Letter to the Editor: Declaration of hope and promise

Published 6:28 am Saturday, December 14, 2019

To the Editor:

During this past year incidents of hateful rhetoric – and actions of violence against immigrants, people of color, Jews and other marginalized people –  have inspired the individual members of the North Dare Ministerial Association who have signed below to publicly attest that they will, in the name of God, vigorously denounce any hateful speech and actions lodged against immigrants, people of color, Jews, and other marginalized people.  And we invite others of good will to join us in this pursuit.

Believing that God transcends nation, political party, race, religious affiliation, economic status, citizenship, and gender, the signatories to this declaration commit ourselves to educating and serving all those interested in learning and following the ways of the God who loves ALL.

We invite community leaders – members of the Board of Commissioners, members of town councils, members of the Board of Education, public employees, business leaders, and leaders of youth programs – to join us in the years ahead in opposing hateful speech and actions visited upon all citizens, especially immigrants, people of color, Jewish people, and marginalized people.  We commit ourselves to helping you in this endeavor.
