Santa pays a visit to Kill Devil Hills

On Dec. 14, Santa stopped by the Town of Kill Devil Hills. Over 70 families came to visit Town Hall that night to see Santa, go on a “sleigh ride” and enjoy some hot chocolate and goodies with one another and town staff.

“We have had a lot of people come through,” said Rachel Tackett, KDH public information specialist. The event lasted from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The town makes this an annual community affair, free of charge and filled with lots of holiday spirit.

New this year, local students hosted a craft where families could make their own reindeer food and color a gingerbread man or Christmas tree before they set off on a sleigh ride around Aviation Park.

Scott Baxley, an employee of the town with the Buildings and Ground Department at KDH, had his children and extended family come in to sing Christmas carols. “They’re used to singing in their church choir,” Tackett explained.

Volunteers were there to serve hot chocolate, apple cider and lots of sweets to the families that came in. Santa and his helper, Addison Hedgepeth, were seated in the Meeting Room to greet and talk to all the families that stopped by.
