Grandy – Catherine Ann Dowlin, 63, of Grandy, died due to complications from colon cancer on January 7, 2020.

Cathy is survived by five boys. Jesse Pipia of San Diego, Calif.; Wesley Pipia of Grandy; Daniel (Shane) Baker of Laguna Beach, Calif.; Brice Baker of Grandy; and Adair Dowlin of Billings, Mont. as well as father Jerald Pollard of Haines City, Fla.; sisters Christine Gutt of Richmond, Mich. and Peg Pollard of Carlsbad, Calif. and grandchildren Roxy and Hurley Pipia, Waylon Pipia and Brice Jr. and Brianna Baker.

Cathy was a feisty woman, who liked things just so.  From early on, she had to be strong — and she always was, having had a big hand in raising her younger siblings. She had worked locally in the service industry for over 30 years.

Cathy grew up in suburban Detroit; Roseville, Mich. She lived for a time in St. Petersburg, Fla., where her first son Jesse was born, before relocating back to Flint, Mich., where Wes and Shane began life. Her youngest two, Brice and Adair, were born in the Outer Banks area, where Cathy eventually gravitated to. It’s a place she felt she was finally “at home.” All of her sons finished school locally, in North Carolina.
