State of the County. 8 to 10 a.m. at Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant. Join Bob Woodard, Chairman of the Dare County Board of Commissioners for breakfast, an update on the State of the County and to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Dare County.

Powell’s Point Senior Center. New series: “Take Control of your Health.” What are some things we can do be a healthier senior? Come find out! Sheila Gregory from Cooperative Extension will be leading the class. Class begins at 10 a.m. Call the center at 252‐491‐8173 to sign up.

Currituck Senior Center. 10-week Tai Chi for Arthritis class taught by Min Delgarbino. Ease arthritis pain, reduce blood pressure, improve balance and stability, lower body and leg strengthening and more. Class begins at 10:45 a.m. 130 Community Way, Barco.

Library Garden Series: Plants that Survive and Thrive. 11 a.m. to noon at Kill Devil Hills Library. Dare County Master Gardeners have chosen seven plants that have done well in the tough conditions of the Outer Banks. Featured plants this year are ice plant, salvia, coral honeysuckle, American holly, camellia and red bud. All programs are free, reservations not required.

Run for Ocracoke 5K Fun Run. 7 a.m. registration. 8 a.m. start. From Fessenden Center’s Skate Park to British Cemetery in the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse District and back. All proceeds go to Ocracoke disaster relief through the Cape Hatteras United Methodist Men. Registration fee is $20, cash or check to CH United Methodist Men, memo Ocracoke relief.

Free Wellness Screening. 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Piggly Wiggly, 118 S. US Hwy. 64, Manteo.  To make an appointment for a health screening at this event, call 252-449-7300.

Moms Morning Out. 9 to 11:45 a.m. at Roanoke Acres Preschool. For children aged 2 ½ through 4 years old. Call to reserve a spot, 252-619-2540 or 252-473-8014. Each session is limited to 10-12 children. There is no cost for this program. Sessions include indoor/outdoor playtime, a Bible story time, music time, games, snack and more.

Temperance and Bootlegging: A Nation Under Prohibition. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Museum of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City. At 10 a.m., visitors can enjoy the ribbon cutting and light refreshments. Beginning at 10:30 a.m., Daniel S. Pierece will discuss his newest book, Tar Heel Lightnin’: How Secret Stills and Fast Cars Made North Carolina the Moonshine Capital of the World. At 11 a.m., Elizabeth City’s own Dickie Sanders will portray Alvin Sawyer.  Sawyer was known as the Moonshine King, a colorful personality in area lore. This event is free and open to the public.

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, 11 a.m. Dare Center, 950 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo. The Rev. Frank Lassen, pastor of the Source Church, Manteo, will be the speaker. Following the program of music and Rev. Lassen’s address, a free hot lunch will be served.
