Run for Ocracoke 5K Fun Run. 7 a.m. registration. 8 a.m. start. From Fessenden Center’s Skate Park to British Cemetery in the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse District and back. Beginning at 10:30 a.m., Daniel S. Pierece will discuss his newest book, Tar Heel Lightnin’: How Secret Stills and Fast Cars Made North Carolina the Moonshine Capital of the World. At 11 a.m., Elizabeth City’s own Dickie Sanders will portray Alvin Sawyer.  Sawyer was known as the Moonshine King, a colorful personality in area lore. This event is free and open to the public.
