Dare County Arts Council has announced a call for entries for the 42nd Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show, which will open on Saturday, January 25.

The Frank Stick Memorial Art Show is the longest running visual arts exhibit in Dare County and is known as the winter art event on the Outer Banks that brings out the most original work by local and regional artists.

“Being raised on the Outer Banks, the Frank Stick Show has always been ‘The’ local show to enter and attend,” said Dare County Arts Council staff member Louise Sanderlin. “The work is always exceptional in execution, diverse in media and subject . . . it never disappoints. I am elated that Dare County Arts Council is able to continue to honor Glenn Eure by presenting the ‘Eure Best In Show’ award. Recipients should be thrilled to receive such a prestigious award among their comrades and never forget all of the work Glenn did to create such a loving, treasured show and thus an extraordinary artist community.”

Artists wishing to participate in the Frank Stick Memorial Art Show can find the prospectus online at DareArts.org/frankstickshow and at the DCAC Gallery in Manteo.

The show is open to Dare County Arts Council members and non-members. Artwork can be dropped off on Tuesday, January 21 or Wednesday, January 22 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the DCAC Gallery, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue in Manteo.

Artist and assistant professor of fine arts at College of The Albemarle Christina Weisner will judge the show. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in sculpture and Bachelor of Arts (BA) in world studies from Virginia Commonwealth University (2006) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in sculpture and ceramics from University of Texas at Austin (2010). Her work explores complex relationships between objects, humans and the natural environment.

“I am honored to be the judge for this event that brings the local arts community here on the Outer Banks together year after year,” said Weisner. “I am very much looking forward to seeing the diversity of work that this important annual show typically attracts.”

The show’s opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Dare County Arts Council. The reception is free and open to the public and will feature hors d’oeuvres and drinks.
