Pound net closure starts Monday

Effective at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, all nets from pound net sets must be removed from internal coastal waters, proclaims North Carolina Marine Fisheries Proclamation M-1-2020.

Exceptions to the closure period are western portions of the Albemarle Sound and the Currituck Sound and their tributaries.

The closure is in effect until midnight, Friday, Jan. 31.

N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission Rule 15A NCAC 03J .0501(f) requires a pound net closure period between December 1 and February 1 each year in which all nets must be removed from pound net sets.
