School safety forum set for Dare County Schools

Dare County Schools Superintendent Dr. John Farrelly shared an email Monday morning, January 13 with parents and staff announcing a forum on school safety.

According to the email, DCS will hold the safety forum at the First Flight High School auditorium on Tuesday, January 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and it will be open to the DCS community. The forum is set to include a presentation by Farrelly, a stakeholder panel (including Board of Education Chairman Bea Basnight and local law enforcement officials) and a question and answer session.

“The question and answer portion of the agenda will be driven by the information gathered from a school safety survey that I will ask all parents and staff to take,” stated the message from Farrelly. “The survey is brief but pivotal in analyzing our continuous improvement efforts in Dare County Schools. The three (3) questions you will be asked are:

“1. What does Dare County Schools do well in regard to school safety for students and staff?

“2. What can Dare County Schools do to improve student and staff safety?

“3. What questions do you have regarding school safety?”

Additionally, the safety forum will be live streamed at the Manteo High School and Cape Hatteras Secondary School media centers. Mary Ellon Ballance, vice chairman of the Board of Education, and stakeholders will be present at CHSS. An FAQ based on forum content will be provided to following the event.
