Record temperatures set on Hatteras Island

On Hatteras Island, temperatures in January have already broken or tied high temperature readings six times. The temperatures were recorded at Billy Mitchell Airport in Frisco.

On Jan. 3 and 4, high temperatures broke 1966 records.

On Jan. 3, 2020, the high temperature was 73 degrees. The record was 71.

A day later, Jan. 4, the temperature reached 70 and tied the old record.

For four successive 2020 days, high temperature records have been tied or set at the Frisco airport.

Jan. 10. High temperature of 70 degrees tied 2008.

Jan. 11. High temperature was 71 degrees which broke the 70 degree weather in 2014.

Jan. 12 and Jan. 13. The high on both days was 72 degrees which broke the previous high records of 71 from 1995.

The temperature reports are preliminary until reviewed.

The National Weather Service predicts that the warm weather with scattered showers will persist through Wednesday. Then, a series of fronts will push across eastern North Carolina “bringing roller coaster temps” before winter weather comes next week.
