Cape Hatteras seniors honored

Eight seniors at Cape Hatteras Secondary School were saluted for participation in winter sports at the Hatteras Island school.

The ceremony came between the girls and boys varsity basketball games against Bear Grass Charter. Family members and friends accompanied the seniors as they were announced.

For the ceremony, the seniors indicated plans for after graduation, including post-secondary education or military service.

Victoria Williams has cheered for the Cape Hatteras teams for four years and played volleyball for three years. Two senior Lady Hurricane basketball players received applause.

Sophie Waterfield has played basketball for four years for the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes. She has also participated in track, softball and volleyball. In the fourth quarter of the game, Waterfield scored 10 points.

Lexus Meekins has also played basketball for four years. She ran cross country for two years and tried track for one year. She scored a dozen points in the game against Bear Grass Charter.

Five Hurricane basketball players are seniors.

José Cirisa has played basketball for four years. He has also played soccer and baseball and run cross country. Cirisa scored 22 points against Bear Grass Charter, including a duet of threes.

John Contestable played basketball his senior year and played baseball and run cross country during his four high school years. Contestable scored two points Monday night.

Dylan Gray played basketball ball for the Hurricanes for four years. He also played soccer for three years, cross country for two years and track for four years. Gray scored 13 points against Bear Grass Charter.

Zachary Huizing has played basketball for four years. He scored five points on Monday night.

Junias Torres has played basketball for four years and participated in soccer, baseball and football.
