On February 14, the Dare County League of Women Voters will be out and about actively celebrating the 100th birthday of the League of Women Voters-US.

The national organization was founded the same year the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. The Dare League, which was established in 1987, is making February 14 a Day of Action by having members posted at various venues around the county to give out information on the upcoming general election primary to be held on March 3.

They will have information on and forms for voter registration, the latest information on voter ID requirements and sample ballots. They will also have information on the VOTE411.org website where voters can go to find out who is on the ballot and what their positions are on major issues.

Getting a jump on theDay of Action, league members Jessica Loose and Margaret Privott recently went to Manteo High School, where they were able to assist 23 new voters with the registration process.

For election and voter registration information, look for the Dare League members at the Front Porch coffee shops, Food-A-Rama in Manteo, the Hotline Thrift Shops, the Kill Devil Hills and Manteo libraries, the Baum Center and in Avon and Buxton. Information may also be found on the VOTE411.org. The information for the March 3 primary will pop up and registration may be verified.

Picture ID is not required to vote in the primary. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Membership is open to both men and women. For further information, visit www.LWVDareNC.orgor contact co-presidents Fran Kapinos and Judy Lotas at fkapinos@aol.comor judylotas@gmail.com.
