North Carolina Coastal Federation’s oyster roast at Oden’s Dock in Hatteras village was jammed for its annual roast for the coast. An estimated 500 people attended the federation’s fundraiser to support the organization’s coastal program. In addition to steamed oysters, the menu included hot clam chowder, cornbread and a bake sale. A silent auction featured 24 items. Blurky’s Quirky Friends filled the dock with jaunty toons.

At North Carolina Coastal Federation’s Oyster Roast, one of two new oyster steamers was staffed by, from left, Edward Reed from Charlotte/Hatteras, Mike McKainney and Chris Tenpenny. The new oyster cookers were fabricated by College of The Albemarle welding students working at the NCDOT ferry boatyard in Manns Harbor. The two cookers steamed 55 bushels of oysters for the roast.
