On Feb. 7 and 8, Currituck County middle and elementary schoolers competed in the NCHSAA Middle School and Elementary State Championships Concord. Of the children that competed, three middle school state champions and one elementary state champion emerged to represent Currituck.

The wrestling meet was presented by NC USA Wrestling, a state-affiliated organization that works to foster wrestling in the state of North Carolina.

According to Elissa Cooper, “the best in NC showed up to compete.” Approximately 1200 wrestlers from around the state entered the competition. This year marked the 38th annual junior high state wrestling championship and the 20th annual elementary state wrestling championship.
