The Outer Banks Coast Guard Flotilla of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary has planned a Coast Guard-approved boating skills and seamanship course beginning Thursday, April 23.  The comprehensive nine session class will meet twice a week through May 21 from 5-8 p.m. and will be held at the Pitt Center on Virginia Dare Trail in Southern Shores.

This course meets the boating safety education training required by North Carolina regulations for boat and personal water craft operators born on or after Jan 1, 1988.

Topics will include boat handling and trailering, navigation, safe boat operations, communications, emergency situations and paddle craft safety.  All segments will be taught by certified Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors and assistants with years of on-the-water experience and a few good stories to share. Students will gain confidence on the water and learn useful information.
