Manteo Baptist Church volunteers provide breakfast and snacks to community members

On Tuesday morning, March 17, volunteers at Manteo Baptist Church gave out hot breakfast biscuits and snacks to parents who “drove through” and local businesses and neighbors who were shut-in.

Wanda Burgamy, one of the volunteers who came up with the plan for Tuesday morning, said this “all came together on Sunday night around 4 o’clock.” After hearing the news that all public schools were closing due to the coronavirus, members of the church wanted to help in whatever way they could.

Volunteers put together snack bags filled with biscuits, fruit and crackers for anyone in need of breakfast for their children. Burgamy said they are planning on offering a spaghetti dinner on March 18 and another breakfast drive-through setup between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. on March 19.

“All we want to do is help the community,” Burgamy told The Coastland Times. While serving breakfast at the church, members of Manteo Baptist were also driving through the community delivering upwards of 50 meals to businesses and those that were in quarantine.

Throughout the day, Burgamy decided the team would go throughout the neighborhoods in Manteo and deliver leftover meals to anyone who needed them.
