Dare County senior centers in Manteo and Kill Devil Hills are continuing to provide meals during the COVID-19 health crisis.

The Dare County Center on Roanoke Island and the Thomas A. Baum Center in Kill Devil Hills are providing take out meals while the centers’ activities have been shut down as a preventative measure to meet CDC guidelines.

Sandy Pace at the Dare County Center said, “until they tell us we can’t do it, we are going to feed people.” Brandi Bohanan at the Baum Center said the Kill Devil Hills Senior Center has added pickup meals for seniors while the group dining room is closed.

Any Dare County resident 60 and older can receive senior meals. A senior must apply for the meal program before they are eligible, but Bohanan says the process requires only a few questions. A senior can apply by calling the Dare County Center at 252-475-9270 or the Thomas A. Baum Center at 252-475-5637.

Both senior centers also provide home delivery meals for those with mobility issues or special needs. Pre-approval and eligibility standards are required for the home delivery service.
