So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” John 12:13

This weekend marks Palm Sunday. It begins the journey of Jesus to Jerusalem. Many churches celebrate this by blessing and giving palm branches or reeds made into crosses to each family. It is a significant reminder that palm branches were scattered in front of Jesus as he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. It is the beginning of what we call Holy Week leading up to our celebration of Easter, marking Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. It wasn’t an easy journey for Jesus but He had the supernatural strength of His Father.

And so it is with us too. We have God’s strength and comfort to overcome the fears of the times we are in right now. The isolation and restrictions have been extended due to the seriousness of the pandemic. But Jesus was an overcomer and so are we. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39. It is the time to lean into our faith, to pray without ceasing and to heed the warnings and instructions of our leaders. On social media I heard that a family printed out a copy of Psalm 91 and posted it on their front door. It was symbolic as if to say, “no weapon formed against us can prosper here in our house.” Embrace this time to hear the voice of God. To come closer to Him. Make this time at home count. Our prayers today and everyday might include the many people making a difference to help us on so many levels. God bless everyone.
