A female dolphin has washed up near Balchen Street in Kitty Hawk. Karen Clark with the Marine Mammal Stranding Network said the dolphin stranded late yesterday afternoon, May 20.

A staff member with MMSN attended to the animal this morning, May 21. Clark said that, due to the current situation with COVID-19 and the need to preserve response team members for other calls, they did not prioritize the stranding, but it was determined that there were “complications with birth.”

A necropsy is planned.
