Volunteers clean Hatteras community park

Early in May, volunteers spring-cleaned the Hatteras Village Community Park on Eagle Pass Road. Dare County Public Works provided a huge roll-off dumpster for vegetation and volunteers filled the dumpster.
Volunteers participating in the cleanup were Laura Young, Melinda Cartwright, Matthew Cartwright, Gabby Baker, Sherry Hesse, Scott Hesse and Ricki Shepherd, who coordinated with Public Works staffer David Overton. Volunteer Gabby Baker will receive community service certification for helping.
The Hatteras Village Community Park is owned by the community.
The 8.5 acre property was purchased in 2003. In 2010, the Hatteras Village Civic Association received a 50% grant from the Dare County Visitors Bureau to help build the existing trail, boardwalk and parking area.
At the park’s boardwalk, a kiosk has educational brochures with information about the geographic features of the area as well as the flora and fauna.
