Results from Dare’s COVID-19 testing reported; next event open to Hyde residents

A total of 363 appointments are still available as of 4:15 on Friday, May 29 for the drive-through testing event on Tuesday, June 2 at Soundside Event Site in Nags Head. Given the number of s available, the testing event is now being offered for permanent residents of Dare and Hyde counties age 10 and older. To schedule an appointment, call 252-475-5008.  

A total of 178 individuals were tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday, May 26 during that day’s drive-through testing event. Dare County Health Department reports it has received results back on 171 of the specimens, of which 169 were negative and two were deemed invalid. The invalid specimens were determined to be inadequate for testing and those individuals have been contacted to be retested. The department expected to receive the results for the seven outstanding tests later Friday or Saturday, May 30. 

Number of lab-confirmed cases reached 26,488, with 680 hospitalizations and 859 deaths.

The number of positive COVID-19 tests in Dare County has remained at 22 since May 14. Of those 22 Dare County cases, 19 have recovered or are asymptomatically cleared, one has died and two are active. Of the active cases, one is hospitalized and one is recovering in home isolation.
