Connie Mae Burton Selby, 81, of Manteo, died at home on May 30, 2020 surrounded by family. She was the widow of Milton Selby and the daughter of the late Cora Mae McClease Burton of Manteo and Daniel Burton of Currituck.
She was predeceased by brothers Daniel Burton Jr., Alfred Burton and Wilbur Burton; sister Lovey B. Moore; and stepchildren Jerome Selby (Barbara) and Trina Selby.
She is survived by sisters Mabel Porter, Ethel Bowser, Gloria Burton, Aquilla Bryant (Matthew) and Priscilla Hardy (Al); children Constance Payne (Curtis), Alvin Selby (Joann), Daniel Selby, Julius Selby (Diane) and Lovey Selby; stepchildren Azealea Mackey and Wendell Moore (Cecelia); thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Connie Mae Burton Selby attended and graduated from what is now known as the Roanoke Island Head Start in Manteo. She was an active member of Haven Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She was a volunteer for various programs such as Meals on Wheels and the Roanoke Island Head Start.
There will be a graveside service on June 3 at 2 p.m. at Haven Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Fellowship will follow at the Roanoke Island Head Start Building. Due to COVID-19, please wear a mask.
