Swimmer reported missing in the Pamlico Sound

According to Cape Hatteras National Seashore, at 2 p.m. this afternoon, Wednesday, June 10, an 18-year-old male from Ripley, West Virginia was reported missing in the Pamlico Sound near the Haulover Sound Access.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident.

The missing swimmer was last seen roughly 100 yards from the shoreline, near the edge of a historically dredged deep water area, according to CHNS.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Hatteras Island Rescue Squad, NC Marine Patrol, NC Wildlife Resources Commission, Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Dare County Emergency Medical Services and Cape Hatteras National Seashore Rangers have helped search for the swimmer.
