The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 1800 block of Bay Drive on Thursday, June 11 at 11:07 a.m.

Fire crews from Colington and Kitty Hawk Fire Departments as well as the Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare County EMS were also on scene and assisted in the operation. A KDHFD press release states the fire “was extinguished, in the kitchen, with extensive smoke and fire damage to the structure on the first floor and second floor.”

According to KDHFD, the house was occupied and no one was injured. “The cause of the fire is from a cast iron pan being cleaned with oil; the pan got too hot, causing the oil in the pan to catch fire,” stated the press release.
