College of The Albemarle (COA) Foundation has received a $5,000 scholarship gift from the North Banks Rotary Club for Dare County students attending the college. The foundation received the check in a presentation from North Banks Rotary Club president Rob Holmes on May 28.

The scholarship will assist Dare County residents enrolled at COA displaying financial need while maintaining a 2.0 GPA. It will benefit five recipients at $1,000 each, who will be recognized at the Rotary awards luncheon or at one of the regularly scheduled monthly meetings.

“Since our county leaders have recently stepped forward with scholarships available for recent Dare County high school graduates, we thought this scholarship would be valuable for those residents in our community who wish to return to school later in life to continue their education or pursue a new career,” explained Holmes. “We are honored to work with COA to make this happen.”

Tim Sweeney, dean of COA-Dare, expressed his gratitude sharing, “As dean of COA-Dare, I cannot thank North Banks Rotary Club enough for their continued support to our community in providing $1,000 scholarships for COA students, giving them the opportunity to not only explore careers, but to also earn a college certification or associate’s degree in their chosen field of study. It is this kind of community support and generosity that can transform a student’s life.”
