John VanVliet receives award from Duck Woods Men’s Golf Association

John VanVliet, a rising sophomore golfer at First Flight High School, accepted a set of new Callaway golf clubs and a personalized golf bag purchased with proceeds from the 2020 Dr. Scott B. Anthony Golf Grant. He will also receive two golf lessons from the Duck Woods golf professional staff as part of the grant.

This grant has been established by the Anthony family in memory of Dr. Anthony, a retired orthopedic surgeon and former Duck Woods member. The grant is awarded annually by the Duck Woods Men’s Golf Association to one aspiring youth golfer. Grant applications are sent to the Duck Woods Men’s Golf Association by the athletic directors and golf coaches at First Flight, Manteo and Currituck County high schools. Candidates may be male or female golfers.
