Island Farm is now hosting regularly scheduled mini-programs. A living history farmstead, Island Farm interprets the life of early Outer Bankers from the mid-1800s, when just over 400 people inhabited Roanoke Island.

Included with the cost of admission, mini-programs will be available in the morning and afternoon (weather dependent), Tuesday through Friday. Parental supervision is required. For all programs, meet at the Visitors Center. Programs for the remainder of the 2020 summer season include:

Tuesdays through Fridays, view live blacksmithing all day.

On Wednesdays, the program What Grows? at 11 a.m. features a tour of the farm’s gardens and a windmill program is set for 2 p.m.

On Thursdays, the Sheep to Yarn program starts at 11 a.m. and the Folk Medicine program starts at 2 p.m.

On Fridays, learn about Hayman sweet potatoes at 11 a.m. and about the windmill at 2 p.m.

In addition to the regularly scheduled programs, visitors can expect self-guided house tours, cooking demonstrations and plenty of farm animals to see. Younger guests will find a large offering of toys and games, including hoop and stick, quoits and tug of war.

Admission to the site is $8, and children five and under are admitted for free. Island Farm is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., through November. The farmstead is located at 1140 N US Highway 64, north of Manteo on Roanoke Island.
