Manteo, NC – Jefferson “Sonny” Lee Albarty V [A Legend to many] of Manteo NC, was born December 19, 2001 and went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 23, 2020. He is survived by the family he adored, his father and mother, Lee and Amy Albarty, his sister Grace Albarty, grandparents, and extended family.

Whenever the name Sonny Albarty is mentioned in conversations on the OBX you knew or quickly learned that a Legend was in the making. It was said in a post, in-regards to Sonny, “Now most legends are old-timers and you will very rarely, if ever, find legend material in someone who is 18 years old. But in Sonny that is exactly what you would find. A young man of unbelievable fortitude through uphill battles in life.” A young man with a never give up, never stop fighting and a never stop believing attitude. The type of character traits legends are made of.

From a very young age, Sonny was and is a light and inspiration to all who knew him. His smile, his wit, and sense of humor had a way of brightening the day of all those he came in contact with. We all know him as a master fisherman/hunter. He was most at home on the pier, on a boat, in the woods, or in a blind. He was always on the chase to fill the cooler or freezer with the catch or harvest from the day. His excitement came from the bending of the rod after the cast. His pride came from working at Whalebone Tackle/Oceans East. His passion was in the making of fishing lures for Meat Hog Fishing. His pleasure was in being the chef he was. And his peace came through his relationship with his lord and savior Jesus Christ.
