Sgt. John Beardsley with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement Division has reported that on Monday, September 7 at 12:30 p.m., Currituck County took a call regarding a missing swimmer.

A man had reportedly jumped off of a rented pontoon boat to swim just offshore from Duck in the Currituck Sound. The man struggled in the water and his friends threw him a life jacket. Unable to reach the life jacket, the man then fell below the water’s surface, according to Beardsley.
