The Courthouse Sessions, a weekly virtual concert series hosted by Dare Council Arts Council since April, will travel to the southern part of the Outer Banks to feature musicians from Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands in September.

“We are three musicians from Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, unselfconsciously having fun, playing music from the 80s, one of the weirdest decades in music,” said Raygun Ruby musician and Swell Art Gallery owner April Trueblood. “We are so appreciative that the Arts Council is hosting us for one of their Courthouse Sessions! We have been playing music together for six years now, but we’ve never had a proper introduction to the northern beaches, so we are very pleased to meet new people through this virtual venue.”

The performances will be broadcast on Dare County Arts Council’s Facebook page as Facebook Live events at 8 p.m. every Tuesday in September.

Upcoming scheduled performances include:

– Tuesday, September 15: Blurky’s Quirky Friends from Rodanthe

– Tuesday, September 22: Rory Kelleher from Buxton

– Tuesday, September 29: Coyote featuring Marcy Brenner and Lou Castro from Ocracoke

Raygun Ruby from Hatteras & Ocracoke Islands performed September 1 and Aaron Caswell & Jack Willis from Ocracoke performed September 8.

“We are delighted to share our songs with island neighbors to the north,” said Coyote duo Marcy Brenner and Lou Castro. “Strong ties hold us all together, especially in these unprecedented times. Our unique songs are about universal things, from the heart and steeped in our salty Ocracoke Island life.”

During the performances, Dare County Arts Council will moderate and provide virtual tip jar links for the audience to tip the artists.

Dare County Arts Council’s Courthouse Sessions emerged at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to provide opportunities for artists while engaging with the community.

“In normal times, music would physically bring us together as a community,” said Outer Banks Community Foundation executive director Lorelei Costa. “In these socially distant times, I’m grateful to the Arts Council and these musicians for finding creative ways to bring us together virtually. The Community Foundation was honored to help launch the Courthouse Sessions and support these wonderful local artists.”

The Courthouse Sessions are a part of Dare County Arts Council’s Dare Digital Arts program, which is presented by TowneBank.
