Early Friday morning, Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative linemen, from left, Harley Morris, Josh Austin, Jonathan Vernesoni and Robbie Easley departed Hatteras Island for Summerdale, Alabama, in two Cape Hatteras bucket trucks.

The Hatteras linemen will be working with Baldwin Electric Membership Cooperative, which serves 80,000 accounts in southwest Alabama. The Alabama cooperative has sustained significant damage from Hurricane Sally.

Laura Ertle, the marketing and public relations director for the Cape Hatteras cooperative, commented, “as an electric cooperative that has received our fair share of mutual aid assistance after storms, it is always extra special when we can send our crews to help other cooperatives in need!”

Baldwin EMC employees, along with 750 other lineworkers from across the country, are working diligently to restore power as safely and quickly as possible. More lineworkers are expected to arrive today and by Saturday, more than 1,100 lineworkers will be working on outage restoration. However, due to the widespread damage, the company does expect extended outages in some areas.”

The Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative crews will work as long as they are needed.
