GEM is supporting World Alzheimer’s month by making and posting forget-me-not flowers in honor of our family and friends who are impacted by dementia.

“Did you know that forget-me-nots represent true love and giving someone this flower means you truly love and respect this person? It is a testament to your relationships and promises the other person that you will never forget them in your thoughts,” stated a press release from GEM.

This year’s theme is Reducing Stigma by Increasing Education. “Did you know that talking about dementia helps tackle the stigma, normalizes language and encourages people to find more information, advice and seek help?” stated the release.

GEM has been working with friends and neighbors in the Outer Banks for over 30 years and they have learned many helpful strategies and have a lending library available for the community.

“GEM is a community based 501(c)(3) non-profit and your support will help us continue to serve Dare County. Visit our website (www.gemdayservices.org) to learn more about our programs and services. Post a forget-me-not flower on your Facebook page,” stated the release.

“Together as a community we can encourage awareness of the social and personal impact of dementia. Dementia is not a normal part of aging,” continued the release. “We can learn to understand of the experiences of those affected remains important to support inclusion, empowerment and respect.”
