The Manteo Rotary Club’s Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament and its sponsors provide financial support for scholarships, local grants for the community and international projects. In 2019, the club presented eleven scholarships, eight to Manteo High School students and three to current college students for continuing scholarship support.

The 23rd Annual Manteo Rotary Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament is dedicated to a local legend, Sonny Albarty, who passed away this year. “He left the world far too soon, but he certainly left it better than he found it 18 years ago. We are all so thankful for the difference he made in our lives and hearts,” says the club. The club will start a Sonny Albarty Scholarship for those with an avid interest in the outdoors.

For this tournament, “fishing is allowed from boat, shore, pier or bridge upon all waters located within the State of North Carolina and in the Atlantic Ocean out three miles. Prizes will be awarded for heaviest striper, bluefish, speckled trout and red drum and greatest total weight of any three of the four species.”
