All Saints’ Episcopal Church announced recently that the 2021 After Dark @ All Saints’ program has been canceled.

According to the announcement, the After Dark Committee made the difficult decision to cancel After Dark 2021 due to the uncertainty and health risks of the coronavirus pandemic. Classes would have taken place during the month of February.

The program, After Dark @ All Saints’, generally runs for five weeks in January and February. Up to a total of 75 classes that run 1.5 to 2 hours are held in the church at 40 Pintail Trail, behind the Southern Shores Fire Department at the corner of Pintail and South Dogwood Trail.

All net proceeds from the courses will be given back to the community to support local service organizations on the Outer Banks.

In its first 11 seasons, After Dark @ All Saints’ has contributed $156,311 to local service agencies which provide food, shelter, medical care and other essential services to those in need in our Outer Banks community. In 2019, the program generated $20,788 for distribution.

During the past 11 seasons, at least 7,908 registrants have attended courses at All Saints’. Most classes are offered for just one night. Last year’s offerings included 24 cooking and tasting classes, 15 health and well-being classes along with classes on music, nature, technology, creative expression, artistic crafting and 16 general interest classes.

“We would like to thank all of the instructors who have provided their time and talent to provide stimulating and enjoyable courses to the Outer Banks community to light up the long winter nights,” said After Dark Committee member Tim McKeithan.

Included in the cancellation announcement from All Saints’ Episcopal Church was an encouragement to support those instructors who have restaurants and retail stores on the Outer Banks during the difficult economic times brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. The After Dark Committee members would also like the community to consider making financial contributions to the following service agencies who received contributions from After Dark 2020 proceeds: Beach Food Pantry, Community Care Clinic of Dare, Food For Thought, Children and Youth Partnership, Interfaith Community Outreach, Outer Banks Relief Foundation and Room In The Inn.

Due to the pandemic, these hardworking service organizations have increased financial requirements in order to meet the needs of those impacted by the coronavirus.

The After Dark Committee is already looking forward to presenting an exciting group of courses for the twelfth season, After Dark @ All Saints’ 2022, set for the month of February.
