Police: Teen charged for Goldsboro shooting that wounded 2-year-old

A teenager was charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that wounded a 2-year-old child in North Carolina.

Police arrested the 17-year-old suspect Saturday, a day after responding officers first saw a car leaving the area of the shooting in Goldsboro and heading to a hospital, Goldsboro police said in a news release.

That driver then exited the vehicle with the child, who police said appeared to have a gunshot wound on the leg.

The 2-year-old victim was ultimately brought to a hospital in Greenville, a city located about 42 miles (68 kilometers) northeast of Goldsboro. Police said the child is in stable condition and expected to be released soon.

The suspect was booked into juvenile center in Greenville. He has been charged with four counts of attempted first degree murder, and discharge a weapon into occupied property with serious injury. Police have not released his identity.

Authorities said additional arrests are anticipated in the case.
