On Monday, Nov. 2, Dare County Board of Commissioners will be asked to approve a final design for the new College of The Albemarle academic building, slated for construction in Manteo.

The design is Option #5 presented by Angela Crawford Easterday and Duane Hutchins with Boomerang Design in Raleigh.

On Oct. 20, Easterday and Hutchins delivered five options for exterior finishes to representatives of Dare County commissioners, College of The Albemarle and the Town of Manteo.

The group selected Option #5, which is shown in the commissioners’ agenda book for the Nov. 2 meeting.

The group asked that the design show a not-as-stark white. Additional aesthetic changes may also be considered.

Easterday said the wall featured on the front of the building would be lower.

CERACLAD, a fiber concrete siding system, will be used for the exterior finish with brick at the bottom.

“I like it. I like it a lot,” said Jack N. Bagwell, president of the College of The Albemarle. He was accompanied by James Davison, the college’s chief operations officer.

Representing Dare commissioners were Robert L. Woodard, board chairman, and Wally Overman, vice chairman.

Attending for the Town of Manteo were commissioner Jason Borland, town manager James Ayers and town planner Melissa Dickerson.

Also attending for Dare County were county manager Robert L. Outten, David Clawson, deputy county manager/finance director; Dustin Peele, purchasing agent; and Dorothy Hester, public information officer.
