Kill Devil Hills Fire Chief Troy Tilley, left, gives Congressman Greg Murphy, MD (NC-03) a tour of the Kill Devil Hills Fire station last Thursday.

In addition to providing an overview of equipment and department staffing, Tilley filled Murphy in on how the station responds to incidents such as fires, vehicle accidents, EMS and Ocean Rescue calls.

Murphy also visited Nags Head Fire Dept., EMS Station One and had lunch with Sheriff Doug Doughtie and area police chiefs. The visit was aimed at helping him gain a better understanding of each location’s needs and how he can be a resource in Washington, D.C.

The visit also gave Murphy a chance to discuss H.R. 8538, a bill he co-sponsored to allow nonprofit firefighters and EMS workers to opt into the NC state pension fund and changes implemented as a response to COVID-19 with members of first responder community.
