Irene Spruill Simmons, 92, of Columbia, died Sunday, November 22, 2020, in Virginia Beach.

Mrs. Simmons was born in Washington County, on October 3, 1928, to the late Duard and Jane Furlough Spruill.  She was married to Eldon Benual Simmons, who preceded her in death.

As a homemaker, she lovingly cared for her family in the Frying Pan community of Tyrrell County.  Mrs. Simmons was a long-time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women. She was also a past matron of Columbia Chapter #281, Order of the Eastern Star.  She was very faithful to both her church and the Eastern Star. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Bryan Funeral Service. Reverend Royce Reynolds will officiate. Burial will follow at Azalea Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are a son, Wayne Simmons and wife Pam, of Columbia; a daughter, Teresa S. Davenport and husband Jimmy, of Chesapeake, VA.; grandchildren: James Davenport of Chesapeake, Kyle Simmons and wife Katey of Newport, Jamie Davenport of Washington, and Stacy Frost and husband Kenny of New Bern; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Jean S. Gasaway, of Loganville, GA, and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by grandson, JR Simmons; two brothers, Elbert Spruill, Milford Spruill and four sisters, Ella S Laycock, Frances Spruill, Erdine Spruill, and Mildred S. Parker.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2020, at Bryan Funeral Service in Columbia.

The family has requested that anyone attending the visitation or funeral service to wear a face covering.

Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service, Columbia.
