Spiny dogfish commercial fishery now open

North Carolina Marine Fisheries Proclamation FF-44-2020 opened the spiny dogfish commercial fishery on Nov. 19 in North Carolina Coastal Fishing Waters.

A 20,000 pound trip limit is established in state waters.

The fishery will close by proclamation once the quota has been reached, or at 6 p.m. on April 30, 2021, whichever occurs first.

“The intent of this proclamation is to manage the North Carolina spiny dogfish annual quota established by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Spiny Dogfish Management Board, following the guidelines of the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Spiny Dogfish,” states the proclamation.
