Flu clinic set for Hatteras Island

The Outer Banks Hospital is offering free flu vaccines to community members ages 18 to 64 in Hatteras Village, Avon and Rodanthe on Tuesday, Dec. 8.

The Fight the Flu event will be held inside at:

– Hatteras Village Civic Center, located at 56658 NC 12 in Hatteras, from 10 to 11 a.m.

– Avon Fire Department, located at 40159 Harbor Road in Avon, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

– Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Center, located at 23646 NC 12 in Rodanthe, from 2 to 3 p.m.

Masks are required. Walk-ins are welcome.

The Outer Banks Hospital staff will be adhering to all CDC and local health department COVID-19 guidelines. To receive the flu vaccine, participants must be between the ages of 18 and 64.

Quadrivalent influenza vaccines will be administered at all TOBH events. These vaccines are designed to protect against four different flu viruses, including two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses.

States the announcement from The Outer Banks Hospital: “We STRONGLY recommend that individuals ages 65+ receive the High Dose Quadrivalent Flu Vaccine this year. Please note that this clinic does NOT administer the High Dose Quadrivalent Flu Vaccine. Individuals ages 65+ may not be fully protected by receiving the Standard-Dose Quadrivalent Vaccine.”
