Picking cotton or passing through?

No, black bears (Ursus americanus) do not pick cotton, but there are a lot of black bears on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge and the surrounding region. And here’s another cotton pickin’ photo of one.

“While the black bear is an omnivore, we don’t think cotton is part of the bear diet,” states a release from US Fish and Wildlife Services.

“But a cotton field is a pretty piece of land for a bear to pass through in search for the next meal. From seeds, berries and grains, to squirrels, rabbits, deer and, fish the American black bear is not too picky when it comes to eating.”
