Doris Sawyer Phelps, 87, of Manteo, died at home on December 9, 2020.

Mrs. Phelps was preceded in death by husband Parker Lee Phelps; grandson Talmadge Wayne Jones; daughter Judith Ann West; four brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by daughter Jeanne Leigh Phelps; son James Larry Phelps; granddaughters Jeannie Light (David) and Amy Elkins (Bud); two great-grandchildren; siblings Nell Lee (Allan) of Jacksonville and Roger Sawyer of Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on December 12 at Wanchese Assembly of God. Entombment at Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens will be private.
