The coronavirus pandemic caused this year’s Town of Kill Devil Hills fireworks event to be postponed from the traditional night of July 4th until December.

The fireworks event will be held Thursday, December 17, at 7 p.m. at the Avalon Pier. The display will take place in conjunction with the 117th anniversary of the first heavier than air flight by Wilbur and Orville Wright.

The show will be livestreamed on the town’s YouTube page, www.youtube.com/user/townofkdh. The town issued a statement strongly encouraging everyone to choose this method to view the fireworks display.

With the pandemic still a threat, Kill Devil Hills officials say if people choose to watch the fireworks show from the beach, the town advises only watching the in-person show with members of your household, keeping a minimum physical distance of six (6) feet between you and others, wearing a cloth face covering and, if you are not feeling well, stay home.
