Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Vivian Howard, award winning chef, TV personality and author, is hitting the road with her new cookbook This Will Make It Taste Good and a stop in Manteo is on her itinerary. Downtown Books is proud to be a part of Vivian’s “This Will Make It Taste Good” drive-through book tour and will be hosting her on Saturday, December 19 from 1-3 p.m.

While most author events for 2020 have been shelved due to Covid, this is a socially distanced, drive-through book signing opportunity and all CDC guidelines will be followed. Guests will stay in their car for the entirety of their visit, but will get a chance to meet Vivian, have a copy of This Will Make It Taste Good signed while snacking on some treats from the book’s pages and have an opportunity to take a quick photo together (again, from the car).

Downtown Books, twice voted the Best Bookstore on the Beach, is partnering up with the folks at Outer Banks Distillery on this opportunity to give Vivian’s fans a very special Christmas present. All information is available at duckscottage.com and all tickets must be purchased in advance. Vivian will not be able to sign books brought from home.

In This Will Make It Taste Good, Vivian introduces the home cook to her “flavor heroes” –simple but powerful recipes that will brighten, deepen and define your food. Vivian wrote the book and shares her everyday tricks “to inspire you . . . and change the way you cook, the way you think about what’s in your fridge and the way you see yourself in an apron.”

Vivian is the chef and owner of The Chef and The Farmer in Kinston. Her PBS series A Chef’s Life gained a national following, propelling her to celebrity chef status and putting eastern North Carolina in the culinary spotlight. She has written one previous cookbook, Deep Run Roots – an homage to the ingredients of her home region, has won a James Beard Award, a Peabody, two daytime Emmys and hosts the new television series, Somewhere South.

Downtown Books is located at 103 Sir Walter Raleigh Street in Manteo and can be reached at 252-473-1056.
