Dare Education Foundation grant awarded to further NC Aquarium virtual classrooms

A $1,000 grant award from the Dare Education Foundation will allow the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island to provide virtual programs to Dare County students.

“Bringing the Aquarium to the Classroom through Virtual Programming” provides opportunities for Dare County students to participate in a virtual lesson from the Aquarium. The grant will fund ten such lessons for students in kindergarten through eighth grades.

“We are so pleased to receive this award,” said Rhana Paris, the aquarium’s outreach coordinator. “As we continue to highlight our ability to share education through remote and virtual learning, this funding will open new opportunities to bring the amazing world of the Aquarium to new eyes and ears.”

The Dare Education Foundation was established in 2002 by a group of community organizers and supports students, teachers and schools in Dare County by funding innovative learning opportunities. DEF works together with Dare County Schools to provide grants to schools and classrooms, funding for teacher professional development, college scholarships and affordable teacher housing.

The NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Pre-reserved tickets and cloth face coverings are required. For more information, visit ncaquariums.com/roanoke-island.
