John 8:25, “Who are you?” they asked. “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning,” Jesus replied.

The crowd asked Jesus a simple, yet an important question. In fact, this may be the most important question a person will ever answer. Who is Jesus? Now, let’s be careful here. The answer that we give to any question does not determine the truth, just because we give an answer does not mean that the answer is correct. Many people will give the wrong answer, and yet they are convinced their answer is right. They may be sincere, but they can be sincerely wrong.

So, who does Jesus say that he is? Just what he has been telling us from the beginning, The answer to this question is both simple and complex. Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. That was the Good Confession Peter made in Matthew 16. But Jesus is so much more! He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, he is the good shepherd, John 10:11; he is the Alpha and Omega, Revelation 22:13; he is the author and perfecter of our faith, Hebrews 12:2; he is the bread of life, John 6:36; he is the great high priest, Hebrews 4:14; he is the head of the church, Ephesians 1:22, he is the Immanuel, Isaiah 7:14; and the list goes on and on. The more we read and study the Bible, the more we learn and discover about Jesus. It is like a never ending treasure hunt!

But the real beauty of who Jesus is comes when he becomes not just the Lord, or the Lamb of God, but when he becomes OUR Lord and OUR Lamb of God. You see, we have to personally accept Jesus, and we have to allow him to work in our lives. We have to develop that relationship with him. That is what he longs for. And we simply need to come to him in faith and obedience.

Father thank you for Jesus and for all he is. In Jesus’ name, amen.
