To the Editor:

There is a plan in motion to close the First National Bank in Columbia, N.C. The nearest branch is forty plus miles away and there is only one other bank in town.

If you can’t make the drive and change banks, you’ll lose your unused checks; have to close your accounts and all of your direct deposit items will have to be transferred which will surely mean bureaucratic snafus.

This is a great example of corporate greed and indifference to local needs. A lot of retirees will be impacted and four jobs will be gone in an area that surely needs them.

If you have any questions or comments, contact Karyl Rhodes at 252-255-4911 who is market manager or call the bank itself.

Yours truly
