Most of the year, the snow goose (Anser caerulescens) is a common but not overly abundant bird found on Pea Island Refuge and other regional national wildlife refuges.

In the summer, they nest mostly in the far northern portions of Canada and the Arctic.

This time of year, the birds can be seen and heard in the local area honking and chattering as they fly around, wade and waddle, feeding on the vegetation. They eat plants along the shoreline as well as in shallow water, pulling up aquatic vegetation.
