Nell Gray Gibbs Martin, 93, of the Ponzer Community, died January 2, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Nell was born in Hyde County on October 28, 1927 to the late Bland and Katie Mae Watson Gibbs. She was married to Hampton David Martin, who preceded her in death.

A graveside service was held January 6 at the family plot in the Mt. Olive Church of Christ Church Cemetery. Pastor Mike Caton officiated.

Surviving are son Dennis H. Martin; daughter Judy M. Guthrie; grandchildren Robert D. Guthrie, David V. Guthrie, Beverly D. Van Staalduinen; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Doris Gibbs.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by son David B. Martin; brothers Benjamin Gibbs, Joseph Thomas “J.T.” Gibbs, and sister Annie Mae Hatfield.
