Camden and Currituck volleyball teams in second round of state tournament

Camden County’s varsity volleyball team advanced to the second round of the state tournament by defeating Cape Hatteras Secondary in three sets.

The match was played Jan. 12 at Cape Hatteras Secondary in Buxton.

Camden won in three sets, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-12.

Serving 23 times for Camden was freshman Adisyn Russell. Teammate Sydney Tatum served 17 times and Peyton Carver, 11.

For Cape Hatteras, senior Laura Hooper served a total of 11 times and Rubie Shoemaker 9. Cape Hatteras Secondary finishes the season 5-4 overall and 4-1 conference.

Camden High, 11-3, played Neuse Charter, 9-3, on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021 in a five set battle. Neuse won 3-2. The set scores are 25-23 Camden, 23-14 Neuse, 25-20 Neuse, 25-20 Camden, and 15-11 Neuse.

Currituck High School, 10-2, is also in the second round of the state tournament. Currituck played Carrboro, 11-0, also Thursday, Jan. 14. Carrboro prevailed in three sets, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-20.
